When you work for the Students’ Union you join a vibrant and diverse community which is open and friendly with a welcoming face for all.
Most of our staff are located at the Highfield campus of the University of Southampton where we enjoy attractive grounds and gardens which even offer the joy of ducklings in the springtime! We also have staff located at the Winchester campus who benefit from the beautiful park next door and working close to the city centre.
We are delighted to be able to offer a number of benefits to our staff over and above their monthly remuneration.
Holidays
Generous annual leave entitlement rising to 24 days (pro rata for part-time/part-year staff) after four years service. Staff also receive Students’ Union closure days in addition to the statutory bank holidays – usually six additional days holiday per annum around Christmas and Easter so you can always be sure of time off between Christmas and new year.

Staff Recognition & Communications
- Staff Forum – staff representatives form a channel of communication between our core and support staff and senior leaders.
- Staff Newsletter- the newsletter gives you the chance to keep in touch with Students’ Union goings-on.
- Staff Briefings – another opportunity to keep abreast of developments within the Students’ Union and to get together with all the other permanent staff.
- Union Star Awards- staff are nominated by their peers for exceptional performance and a voucher is awarded to the winner each month.
Flexible Working
The Students’ Union recognises the importance of a good work:life balance and supports staff in achieving this. The Union offers various flexible working opportunities and these are promoted to staff through a raft of personnel policies.
Domestic Emergencies
We know that the Students’ Union is only part of your life and we are sympathetic towards requests to take time off work to deal with domestic emergencies be it burst waterpipes or dependants that require emergency care.
Occupational Health
We employ the services of an Occupational Health team to help us to support staff who are undergoing health issues whether they are physical, emotional or mental.
Our Social Enterprise Areas
Staff are able to use our range of social enterprise areas. We have various catering outlets offering everything from snacks and drinks to hot meals and refreshments. We also have licensed bars on-site in which to relax after work. The Shop is convenient for anything from groceries to the daily newspaper or gifts and cards. There is also an on-campus cinema showing films each week.
Social Activities
Social events ranging from Christmas parties to smaller events are organised by members of the Staff Forum. We also offer our staff limited entry to Union Southampton night-time event.
Staff can choose to become members of any of over 180 societies and over 70 sports clubs.
