Dear Team,
I hope this email finds you well.
Until now, free evening and weekend parking has helped to make the events of our University Society, the Southampton Swing Dancers, affordable and accessible. However, there is nothing on the new signs in campus car parks to show the times when new charges will apply in November - which has caused a lot of worry among our participants! We have contacted Turner Sims and their staff were able to reassure us that parking will continue to be free after 5pm and on weekends.
However, we would be grateful if you can add your voice to that of Turner Sims to make sure that further signs are installed in all campus car parks to make clear when charges will apply, before the new rules come into effect.
Furthermore, anticipating that might take some time, please seek written assurance on this subject, to be shared with all users of the University.
Parking costs and continued concerns about fines would be a real obstacle for our Society. They would have a real chilling effect! So we would be very grateful for your help!
Yours faithfully,
Elisabetta

Hello Elisabetta,
I have received an update from Adam Tewkesbury from the Estates and Facilities Team, who said that a review is currently underway about parking signage.
They are aware of your issue with times, and are implementing the changes and have said that it should be sorted in the near future, which I believe to mean before Christmas.
If it is not done by Christmas I will follow them up with another email and copy you in to keep you aware.
I will close this submission now, but if you would like to discuss further, please email me at president@soton.ac.uk.
Many thanks,
Lawrence.

Hello Elisabetta,
Thank you for making us aware of this, we can easily see how this would negatively affect students, particularly for events such as the ones you mentioned.
I have emailed to contact the University Estates team voicing your concerns, and I will reply on here again when I receive their response so that you are kept updated.
Kind Regards,
Lawrence Coomber.
Union President 2024/25.
