This initiative focuses on facilitating a supportive and inclusive environment for female students in university sports facilities. It will address the lack of female only sessions in areas such as swimming pools, gyms and other athletic spaces. This petition will advocate for females who have gender specific needs encouraging more female participation in facilities available at the university. Implementing these changes will create a more supportive environment by empowering women in sport thus creating a culture of diversity and equal opportunity.

Dear Leyla,

I will now be closing this You Make Change submission. If any student would like to reach out to me regarding this suggestion, I am very open about working with anybody to make this opportunity available to students.

Southampton Sport are open to starting discussions surrounding inclusive sessions specifically put on for the reasons you have stated in your idea submission. We need to hear from students to make sure that if these sessions were to be put on, that they would have people take up the offer. This is mainly surrounding the swimming pool in Jubilee, due to its already full schedule every day in term times.

Many thanks,

Dear Leyla,

Thank you for submitting this Idea. Since I started in my role in July, I've been collaborating with Southampton Sport to assess the feasibility of hosting these sessions in the swimming pool. In our initial discussions, they've expressed interest in gauging student demand for this initiative.

Moving forward, I’ll work with our Insights Manager at SUSU to explore ways to gather student interest and advance this proposal with Southampton Sport. Additionally, if you could provide any details on how you envision the sessions operating in the gym or other athletic spaces, it would be incredibly helpful for shaping the plan.

Thanks,
Conor White (he/him)
