Movember 2025: Our Student Community Standing Up for Men’s Health

Travis Arthur, VP Sports

Movember 2025 has been one of our most collaborative and community-driven campaigns yet, and I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved across Team Southampton and throughout the university. I worked closely with our two student Movember reps to deliver a programme of events and to coordinate engagement across our sports clubs and wider student groups. This year, I also joined a national initiative with 27 other Sports Sabbaticals across the country, uniting our campuses in a shared push to raise awareness and vital funds for men’s health.

On campus, we delivered a diverse set of activities designed to involve as many students as possible. We kicked things off with a Movember Shave Stall, followed by a campus wide Inside Out Day promoting conversations around mental health. We also ran a hugely popular 6-a-side football tournament and a 24-hour cycle competition. In addition, student clubs took the lead with their own initiatives: charity tournaments, moustache-growing, darts nights, quizzes, 24-hour run challenges, welfare-focused Walk & Talk sessions, and even fun commitments like drinking a pint every day to aid fundraising. The creativity and dedication shown by our clubs this year has been outstanding.

Overall, 39 groups and 426 students took part in Movember. Lacrosse led the fundraising charge, raising over £5000, with many other clubs making significant contributions. Across the university, we raised over £32,000, and through the national sabbatical collaboration, we collectively achieved approximately £1,000,000.

I am incredibly proud of how our community came together — not only to raise money, but to spark important conversations about men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and physical wellbeing. Movember is always a reminder of the strength of our student community, and this year was no exception. I’m excited to build on this momentum next year and continue pushing for awareness, support, and positive change.
