While filling the role of senator, I vow to make sure that a student’s voice is always heard and taken into deepest consideration. Often students can feel like they have little-to-no say in what occurs at their university. I have fell victim to this feeling as well. I want to make sure that students know that they have a great student body team representing them and they can be very open in expressing what changes they want to see. Working with my other senators, I will be boosting my teamworking, communication and negotiation skills. These will all prove invaluable as I am determined to pursue a degree in law in the future, and participating in Union led leadership roles aligns well with the duties of a solicitor. I will ensure I am present at all Senate meetings and guarantee our senator’s presence is felt by Sabbatical Officers. I have a wealth of experience in handling paperwork and all manner of reports and statistical analyses. This will prove useful in scrutinising any progress made by Sabbatical officers. Additionally, if elected I hope to be a voice of reason and establish successful relations between the Senate and other groups involved in the running of the university. Another goal of mine is to share and communicate the number of activities that students can take part in, such as being a part of the senate, being a course representative or school/department president. These are all amazing opportunities that students should be more aware of while they are enrolled at university, which for many is their main method of increasing their employability options after completion. These extra activities can really be the difference between being successful in being employed or not, so I want to spread the word. Communication and transparency will be the main focus while being a senator and I am eager to take part in this experience.
