Why vote for Amy?

Hello! I am AJ, a multi-instrumentalist and composer who would love to be your next Music President!

Since joining the university last September, I have taken on many responsibilities/commitments including becoming a CoDesigner, student representative of the EDI working group, member of the MESJ reading group, and Course Representative. Because of this latter role, I am comfortable with how feedback collection and meetings operate. This insight would allow me to quickly settle into my role and be set to receive feedback from day one. Proving I was responsive to feedback as course representative (and therefore would be as president too), I created the Virtual Music Noticeboard after noting collaboration struggles.

One of my biggest passions is inclusive/accessible music education. I hope to bring the experience I’ve gained from working in education and arts inclusion to this role to acknowledge how/why students may struggle with the course, and what we can do. For example, I’d love to work on increasing the awareness and effectiveness of accommodations for music assessments. Alternatively, inclusion can also be as simple as offering all types of musicians equal opportunities. As a composer/trainee-MD myself, I know there are often significant hurdles that non-performers face when it comes to gaining experience, so I’d therefore investigate how to decrease this.

Overall, I believe that my experience as a member of the student voice and worker in several sectors of the music industry would allow me to work effectively in this role, representing all students and amplifying your voices!
