Xylia Lim - Physiotherapy Department President

As department president, I aim to strengthen connections between international and home students, fostering opportunities for mutual learning and growth. My experience as an international student has provided me with a unique global perspective and a deep appreciation for diversity, inclusion, and the challenges of adapting to a new academic and cultural environment. This has made me more empathetic, adaptable, and proactive in supporting and uniting students from all backgrounds.

I also plan to enhance relationships and communication across different year cohorts. This will enable second and third-year students to share advice with first-year students, easing their transition, especially before placement or assessments. To do this, I hope to work with the physiotherapy society to cultivate the relationship between the years so that advice and support can be effortlessly passed through the years.

I believe building rapport is crucial to ensure everyone feels comfortable raising concerns. I understand the importance of feeling seen, heard, and supported both academically and socially. To improve this, I will strengthen the relationship between staff and students by establishing a clear, direct, and accessible communication channel. I will actively listen to students’ concerns about the course and collaborate with staff to find solutions promptly.

As president, I will ensure your voices are heard, advocate for your needs, and work collaboratively with faculty and student bodies to enhance our academic and social experience. It would be my absolute honour to serve as your president, and I hope you will vote for me. Thank you!
