Why vote for Omar?
Hi everyone! I’m Omar, a Year 2 Medicine (BM5) student — and I’m standing to be your next Student Councillor because I’m passionate about representing every student’s voice and helping make our university experience as supportive, inclusive, and enjoyable as possible.
Across my time here at Southampton, I’ve been involved in a wide range of roles — including Student Content Creation, Student Ambassador, President of DermSoc and committee member for GPSoc, South Asian Medics, and BanglaSoc. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the challenges students face both academically and personally — from workload balance to wellbeing.
As someone who lives with a mental health condition and previously took time out of their degree to focus on recovery, I understand how challenging it can be to balance studies alongside wellbeing. My experiences have motivated me to make mental health, inclusion, and community support my main priorities as Student Councillor.
If elected, I’ll work to promote wellbeing and mental health support, celebrate diversity and inclusion, and encourage a healthier balance between studies and extracurricular life. I believe in open communication between students and SUSU — I want our feedback to lead to visible change and to ensure that all voices, from every background and faculty, are heard.
I aim to help create a campus culture that values kindness, community, and collaboration. Whether that's through accessible wellbeing initiatives, or better support for societies, I’ll do my best to make a positive difference.
Vote Omar Mojumder for Student Councillor — approachable, friendly, and here for everyone!
