Kate Burrans - Midwifery Department President

I have decided to stand for Midwifery Department President because I believe that every student’s voice is heard and valued. I really enjoyed being Academic Rep for first-year students, working with my peers and staff to share feedback and improve the course. I was proud to receive the Best Contribution Award for Academic Reps for my role in keeping both students and staff informed and building a sense of community.

As I move into second year, I would love to expand further into representing the whole department of student midwives by working with the course reps to ensure all student voices are heard. We come from a wide range of backgrounds, but we all share a focus on supporting women and families. I want to bring that same care into this role, making sure all students feel supported and included.  

I will work closely with the course reps across all cohorts, supporting them in ensuring students feel comfortable sharing feedback and confident that it can lead to change. I’m approachable, friendly and organised and enjoy connecting with other students. As Midwifery Department President, I hope that all students will feel included, supported, and empowered throughout their journey to becoming a midwife.
