Why vote for Hareem?
Hi Everyone! My name is Hareem and I am a first-year law student. I’m running for Chair of Council because I want to help make Council a place where students feel like they actually matter. Council shapes our union, making decisions that affect everyone. But for students, often times it can feel distant and hard to understand. I want to help change that.
To me, being Chair isn’t about having all the answers or being in charge. It’s about listening closely, making space for people to speak, and turning conversations into action. I want Council to feel approachable. I want it to be a space where everyone, no matter their background or experience, can speak up and know that what they say can make a difference. Meetings should feel productive, respectful, and real, not just formalities on paper.
If I am elected, I will focus on the following:
Making things clear – I will do my best to make sure meetings are easy to follow, everyone knows what is happening, and no one feels lost in the discussion.
Supporting accountability – Council exists to serve students. I will help track commitments, make sure decisions are followed through, and hold ourselves responsible for delivering what we promise.
Encouraging participation – Students have so many different experiences and perspectives. I want Council to reflect that. I will work to make everyone feel welcome, confident, and included, even if they are unsure how to speak up at first.
Turning ideas into action – Talk is only useful if it leads somewhere. I will help make sure discussions lead to decisions and actions that make a real difference in student life, and that the work of Council is visible and meaningful to all of us.
I may be new to this, and I don’t pretend to know everything. But I care about this role and I care about students. I will listen, learn, and put in the effort to guide Council in a way that is fair, transparent, and focused on students’ needs. This role is not about me, it is about making Council a place that works for everyone and reflects our priorities.
With your vote, I will bring honesty, energy, and commitment to the Chair of Council. I want to make sure your voice is not only heard, but acted on, so that Council is a place where students feel represented, included, and empowered every day.
