Why vote for Eddie?
As a neurodivergent student, I have seen and experienced the benefits of students having their voices heard. In my student ambassador role I have welcomed many students to the university, and I want to continue to foster a friendly and successful environment for students by acting on the things which matter most to YOU. Suggestions from peers include:
- Assignment feedback: following an update in 2024/25 to the way markers provide assignment feedback to students, I plan to monitor the success of this strategy and work with students and staff to make any further improvements.
- Community: support and promotion of strategies to foster cross-cohort connections (e.g., the OT society buddy system, collaborative socials from health sciences societies).
- Student support: I want to hear from students about your experiences of getting support at university—what has worked and which strategies could work better?
- New curriculum: Our first-year students are currently undertaking the first year of the new, re-validated curriculum. I want to know what is going well and if you have suggestions for improvements!
- Sustainability: the university has a drive towards sustainability but only offers recycling bins in the social spaces of the Health Sciences building. Students dispose of all waste in these bins, resulting in contaminated recycling, and the whole bag goes to landfill. Extension of the distinct general waste and recycling bins available elsewhere on campus would enable students in the Health Sciences building to sort their rubbish responsibly.
