During my undergraduate studies as Student Union President, I gained hands-on experience in organizing interactive student activities—an ability I believe aligns well with the needs of Southampton’s Student Union. A typical example is the Freshmen Academic Experience Sharing Session I planned and led. My core role was overall coordination: I designed the session flow (including a Q&A segment to boost interaction), invited 5 top-performing seniors as speakers, coordinated with the university to book a classroom and multimedia equipment, and collected key concerns from over 80 freshmen via a pre-event online survey (e.g., exam preparation, course selection) to ensure the sharing was targeted.
On the day of the event, we faced a minor issue: the projector stopped working suddenly. I quickly contacted the campus technical support team and adjusted the session order—having the seniors start with oral sharing first—so the event continued without long delays. Post-session feedback showed that 90% of participants found the content useful, and many freshmen mentioned the Q&A part helped them clear up confusion. This experience taught me to prioritize student needs, communicate effectively with different parties (seniors, university staff, freshmen), and adapt flexibly to unexpected problems—skills I’m ready to bring to the Chair of Council role.
