Why vote for Rosie?
A good department president should be approachable, engaged, and care deeply about both philosophy and the philosophy department. I am going to make the case that I satisfy all of these criteria:
- Previously, I was course rep for 2nd year single hons philosophy. I have attended many meetings and delivered much feedback to the department. As with when I was course rep, anyone would be welcome to reach out whenever they want—with feedback, requests, concerns, or any comment. I was, and will, always be there to support you and make sure your voice is heard.
- I am very engaged with the course, reading philosophy not only for academic reasons but out of passion for the subject. I am preparing to go on to study philosophy at a master’s level, and for this reason I care deeply about the quality of the course and the support available for everyone to pursue postgraduate employment or study.
- We have an amazing philosophy department at Southampton, but there are always ways to improve the experiences of students and staff alike. I will go out of my way to make sure that everyone can get the academic outcomes they want regardless of their background and any barriers that may stand in their way.
Ultimately, I love philosophy and want to make sure that it is enjoyable and accessible to everyone. For this reason, I think I would be a great candidate to represent the student body. Thank you for your consideration!
