Yumeng 'Tessia' Zhang - Student Councillor

I am already to express my strong interest in the position of Student Representative for the Sustainable Textiles program at Winchester School of Art. As a student deeply passionate about the future of our field, I am eager to represent my peers and contribute to strengthening our unique community. I believe that this role is crucial for fostering collaboration, ensuring our voices are heard, and enhancing the overall learning experience for everyone.

The choice to study Sustainable Textiles stems from my firm belief that the textile industry must undergo a significant transformation. We are moving beyond simply creating beautiful fabrics; we are learning to become responsible innovators. Our work involves understanding ethical material sourcing, exploring natural dyes, implementing zero-waste pattern cutting, and embracing circular design principles. These are complex but essential challenges. As a student representative, my primary goal would be to create a supportive environment where we can navigate these challenges together.

Furthermore, I aim to act as a clear and reliable communication channel between the student body and the faculty. I will ensure that constructive feedback from students is collected thoughtfully and presented respectfully to the academic staff. Conversely, I will keep my peers well-informed about important updates and decisions from the faculty.
