Why vote for Krzysztof?

As your Union President, I will create and cultivate a community made for students, by students. The university should create an environment where student voice is at the heart of its decision-making, and by electing me, this will be guaranteed!

Cost of Living:

The cost of living is a major issue that students face. I will tackle this by enhancing the value for money at the SUSU shop, reducing travel costs, and lowering rent.

Over the past couple of years, presidents have consistently promised to lower food prices at the SUSU shop, but prices have not decreased. Evidently, the SUSU shop cannot lower its prices. If so, we need to enhance value for money! As your President, I will change meal deals to reflect what students want. For example, if a student does not want a drink in their meal, they should be able to replace it with a snack or a pastry. If students are already being overcharged for food items, they might as well get what they actually want to eat!

I will also lobby to reduce student rent across the city, not just in student accommodation. I will also fight for lower bus fares for students, ensuring prices are lowered back to £2!

Student Safety:

All students deserve to feel safe in the city. Students will go out to Jesters, The Hobbit, and many other places on different nights throughout the week, when night buses are not running. Students either spend a fortune on Ubers or are forced to walk back, feeling unsafe. This should not be the case! I will guarantee that students feel safer by ensuring that night buses will run all week at a cost of £1.

Equally, students should feel safe on our campuses. During winter, students are less likely to attend evening lectures, seminars, labs, or workshops because it is too dark. I will ensure the university increases street lighting across all our campuses, and I will lobby the council to increase street lighting around the city!

Removing Booking Fees for Societies:

Societies are the core of university life, and they should not be punished for organising events for our students. If elected, I will remove the arbitrary booking fee!

Modernising Buildings:

Buildings around campus should adapt to students' needs, not the other way round! Students should not have to stress about making sure their devices are charged, their water bottles are filled, or whether they will find a space to work. Students' needs should be at the centre of how buildings are improved and designed! I will increase the number of workspaces, water fountains and plug sockets in buildings.

Better Transparency:

Students deserve to know what is going on! Too often, students do not know how to get the right support, who to speak to or where to begin. Websites should be more navigable so students can find the information they need. By making both the SUSU and university websites easier to navigate, students can be more informed.

Remember, Vote Krzysztof!

Thank you so much for the question! If I were elected, and there were no constraints (and I was able to implement something straight away), I would lower bus fares and ensure all buses ran more frequently! Students use the buses all the time, so making these cheap and frequent would be my top priority! I would lower the bus fares down to £2 and make sure the night buses are £1 so students are not forced to walk about home in the dark and feel unsafe, or spend fortunes on Ubers. I would also make lines more consistent, especially the U7, U9, and U1N. Students deserve cheaper and more consistent travel!

Thank you so much for the question! This is a great point, and you are right that overbookings are a major issue on courses, causing dissatisfaction among professors and students. An issue like this is very complicated, but something can be done! I would have conversations with senior officials at the university to see what can be done and involve students at the heart of these conversations to ensure senior officials remain accountable for situations like this. As the university sets the student numbers, they have to be questioned about why they set them so high and how they can justify them. However, the university is now in the process of electing a new Vice-Chancellor, which will mean new strategies will be developed. This provides a brilliant opportunity to influence the university’s strategy, allowing us to gain an early foothold and address the negative impact oversubscribed courses have on the student experience. I hope this answers your question!

Thank you for the question! I think the main reason is that I really want change to happen, which positively impacts our students' experience. Over the past two years, I have become more involved in SUSU and in representing students on the wider stage. It makes me so happy to see that I have been able to influence my home department and faculty to improve students' experience. I am passionate about improving the student experience and, because the president's main role is to represent students at the university level, I feel I could do an excellent job! Thank you for the question, and I hope that answers it!

Thank you so much for your question. This is a brilliant question :) The University of Southampton is the majority shareholder in Blustar/Unilink (Unilink is a subsidiary company). This means that as the university's students' union, we have a lot of power! The university sets the timetable and routes, so change can happen. When it comes to ticket prices, you are right: many sabbs have promised this before, but because the president spends a lot of time representing students in university meetings, they often can't fully commit themselves to working on some of their manifesto points. Issues such as pricing take many years of lobbying (both the university and city council), data gathering (data presented to the transport manager who has to balance funding and students’ needs), and work to change, but because of the work that past presidents have done, it sets things up quite well! By lobbying both the city council, which has a lot to do with buses and bus fares, and the university, change can happen. As someone with a good amount of experience sitting in senior university meetings, such as the University Senate and ESEC, I have seen how decisions are made and what is considered. As such, I could effectively push for real change because I already know the decision-making process and do not have to learn it from scratch, which would take considerable time, allowing me to build on what past presidents have done and get to work on this issue straight away. I hope that answers your question :)

Hello! Thank you so much for your question! This is a very important issue to raise! Transgender rights should not be up for debate, and all students should feel safe and included at our university. 1) Yes, I believe that people should respect people's pronouns and preferred names (my pronouns are he/him). 2) Transgender students should use any bathrooms which identify with their gender. 3) I believe that gender neutral bathrooms are an overall positive for welfare, they make people feel included and not marginalised. If elected, I would push for more gender-neutral bathrooms to be installed across campus. 4) Transgender people should have the right to engage with any sport they want, even if it is gendered! They should be able to choose any gendered sport, which aligns with their gender identity! Students should not feel marginalised if they engage with sports. Thank you so much for this question. It is important to raise this issue, and everyone should know what each candidate thinks about it. Everyone deserves to feel safe and included in our university.

Hello! Thank you so much for this question! Throughout my time at university, I have held several roles in the student government and have represented students at every level :) For example, in my second year, I was a course rep for the History department and made changes to how some core modules were run and examined. Currently, I am the Arts & Humanities Faculty Officer and have been involved in several senior-level meetings, such as the University Senate and ESEC. I have seen how decisions are made and what is considered in the wider university strategy. Therefore, I could effectively push for real change because I already know the decision-making process and do not have to learn it from scratch, which would take considerable time, allowing me to work on my manifesto points straight away. I am passionate about representing students and ensuring positive change occurs for our students, and if elected, I could best represent student interests as I have before! I hope this answers your question :)
