About SUSU
Welcome to Southampton University Students’ Union (SUSU)! As you start your university journey, SUSU is here to be your go-to spot for everything student life. Need support, want to join a club or society or just need a place to chill and hang out? We’ve got you.
Freshers 2026 runs from Saturday 12 September to Sunday 27 September. From our amazing events, like the Freshers Party, to ensuring your voice is heard at the university, our goal is to help you make the most of your university experience!
We’re here to help you find your community, meet like-minded people and explore all the stuff SUSU offers. Freshers is the best place to kick things off!

Join a Club or Society
With over 300 societies and sports clubs at Southampton, there’s something for everyone—whether you’re into music, gaming, sport, volunteering, or just want to meet like-minded people!
Come along to our Societies Fair and Sports Fair to meet all the clubs, chat to members, and sign up for the ones that excite you. It’s the perfect way to start your uni journey!
Join a Student Network
Starting university is a big step, and finding your people can make all the difference. Student Networks at SUSU are welcoming, supportive communities where you can meet others who share your experiences, interests, or background.
Whether you’re looking to make friends, find support, or get involved, these groups are a great place to start. You can join any network you identify with, such as the
Break The Ice Events
If you’re a new student looking to meet people and settle in, Break The Ice is the perfect place to start. It’s a relaxed, welcoming event designed to help you make those first connections. We’ll kick things off with a fun icebreaker or activity to get everyone chatting, followed by plenty of time to mingle and make new friends.
With free entry, no ticket needed, and complimentary hot drinks and snacks, all you need to bring is yourself!

The Advice Centre
Whether it's money worries, course concerns, housing problems, or anything in between, our friendly team offers free, independent support to help you feel more in control.
Open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

The Student Hub
The Student Hub is your first point of contact for wellbeing support at the University. They are contactable 24/7 and can help you with wellbeing, disability, careers, fees and course administration issues.

International Student Arrival Guide

Making Friends

Sabbatical Officers
Sabbatical Officers are full-time, paid student leaders who shape the direction of SUSU each year. They support Student Officers and volunteers, making sure your voice is heard and acted on.
Student Reps
Student Officers represent key groups within SUSU and work to make positive change—from supporting clubs and societies to championing sustainability and inclusion. These roles are a great way to make your voice heard and improve student life.
Activities Team
Our Activities Team is here to support you! Whether you're part of a club or society, a Student Leader, volunteer, or working with a Sabbatical Officer, they are here to help you make things happen and get the most out of your time at uni.
