Why vote for Ran?
Why me?
I’ve always felt sport is one of the greatest things in our time. It gives people real joy — even if you’re not “talented”, even if you’re not already in a club. I’m a passionate swimmer and an everyday exerciser, and sport has carried me through busy weeks and quiet moments.
But I also know this: many students don’t hate sport. They just haven’t met their sport yet — or they don’t know how to start without feeling awkward, judged, or out of place. University is such a short chapter, and I truly believe that if you meet a sport you love here, it can become one of your best companions for life.
If elected as VP Sports, I want to open that “first door” for more people — and make Team Southampton feel welcoming, visible, and easier to join, whether you’re a club athlete, a beginner, a postgraduate, an international student, or someone simply curious.
1) More chances to try — “Try It Weeks” all year, not just Freshers
I will work with clubs, intramurals and campus sport to run regular taster weeks and low-commitment sessions so students can explore different sports before committing. This is a proven model in US campus recreation (Try-It Free Week / Free Weeks) and it works because it lowers the biggest barrier: the first step.
2) Women-friendly, confidence-friendly sport
I will improve visibility and access to women-friendly options (e.g., Pilates, strength, swim confidence) and make sure our messaging and spaces feel genuinely welcoming. Inclusion isn’t a slogan — it’s the small choices that help people feel safe to start.
3) Stronger clubs, better experiences
I will support clubs to grow sustainably: clearer online/offline promotion support, practical committee skills resources, and more consistent communication so clubs can focus on delivering great sessions and community.
4) Better facilities feedback, stronger student voice
I will create clearer routes for students to raise issues and see progress, so the everyday experience of training and wellbeing improves for everyone.
I’m not here to make promises that sound big. I’m here to make sport feel possible, findable, and joyful — for more of us.
