Why vote for Libby?
I am currently a second-year Philosophy, Ethics, and Religion student, and I have witnessed firsthand the influence of the student voice on improving course structures, assessments, and communication. I believe that every student should feel acknowledged and supported by their departments, and I aim to ensure strong communication between students and staff.
I will work to improve the accessibility of career information for Humanities graduates, and liaise with teams across the university to provide a broader range of career events, networking programs, and other career opportunities for Arts and Humanities students. I want to make all Humanities students aware of the value of their degrees and how their studies provide them with transferable employability skills, and receive the same engagement from employers that other departments receive.
I am passionate about the importance of interdisciplinary studies and believe that communication across faculties will aid inclusion and understanding, providing students with a wider breadth of skills and knowledge that foster long-term success. I will highlight the diverse uses of the Arts and Humanities across many research areas and establish easy methods of communication between students of different faculties, helping to create a university-wide sense of community.
If elected, I will make clear communication between students and staff a priority. I will ensure that course rep feedback is quickly relayed and that responses to any issues or queries raised are properly addressed, no matter the outcome. To support this, I aim to create an ongoing, easily accessible online feedback centre for courses and faculties that will alleviate any concerns that students' voices are not being listened to, as well as strengthen teams of academic reps and hold regular check-ins to leave no matter ignored.
Above all, student well-being and support are essential. I will welcome suggestions and improvements regarding any aspects of student life, including assessment scheduling, workload, or uneven timetables, and commit to recognising the significance of a well-rounded university experience. I will also prioritise regular updates about module choice deadlines for joint-honours students, to avoid confusion and allow fair timeframes for decision-making.
More than anything, I hope to be a reliable, friendly face that anyone feels they can bring concerns to. Thank you for considering me to be your next Arts and Humanities Faculty Officer, and I look forward to helping foster positive relationships between students and their representatives.
