Why vote for Tawshipa?
Hello! My name is Tawshipa Jarin, and I am running to be your Engineering School President. I've been a course representative for the past two years, General Secretary of Engineering Society, Vice President of RAeS YPC Solent, and a SUSU Senator. Through these roles and several university internships, like Digital Accessibility Intern, I've developed experience in communicating student concerns to academic staff and helping initiate real changes.
Being in my third year next academic year, I'll be in a position to connect students across first years to final-year MEng students. I'll work closely with course representatives to keep feedback channels active throughout the year, rather than only during Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) meetings.
As a course rep, I've seen the challenges students face throughout the academic year. I'll work alongside course reps and staff to help address them. Sometimes, even small changes, like clearer communication about internships, deadlines for coursework, a more accessible Blackboard page, or more visibility of career opportunities, can make student lives easier. And that's what I'm here to do.
If elected, I'll focus on ensuring course representatives and Department Presidents are well-supported and motivated, also improving communication between students and the school. I'd also like to work closely with the university's careers team, academic staff, and engineering societies to increase career support, networking opportunities, and awareness of internships and industry pathways available to engineering students.
I want to help make this year at least a bit easier for the Engineering students.
