A welcoming non-auditioned big band which plays a variety of Jazz, Funk, Swing and Blues music.

A welcoming non-auditioned big band that gets together on Wednesday Night to play a variety of Jazz, Funk, Swing and Blues music. We usually have 30-40 members each year, and quite a new band that is improving year by year whilst having fun playing music together. We have regular socials such as pub crawls, balls, and even cheese and wine nights. The biggest event on the social calendar is our annual tour during Easter Holiday, with the Southampton University Concert Band, to an exotic European destination, where we perform and explore new places. Find us during freshers week in the fresher's fair or come join us on Wednesday's for our weekly rehearsals.

We rehearse on Wednesday nights in the Plant Pot (SUSU, building 42) 7:30-9:30pm. Feel free to just turn up at a rehearsal to see what we're like.

We play standard big band music so usually we have the following instruments/parts:

Rhythm Section: Guitar, Bass (bass guitar or double bass), Piano/keys, Drum kit and percussion. We have a drum kit, keyboard and amps so you don't need to bring these yourself. As we are non-auditioned we have the rhythm section members take it in turns so everyone gets to play.

Horn section: Trumpets, Trombones, Alto Saxes, Tenor Saxes and Bari Saxes (but if you play another wind instrument you're welcome to join in and we'll find you a part!)
