Sinfonietta is the Southampton University's chamber orchestra society.
We comprise of many of the top student instrumentalists at the university, both students studying music and those studying under other faculties. Our aims are to provide members with an incredibly valuable musical and social experience, inclusive of those wishing to engage in a future musical career or otherwise. Each term we hire professional conductors who give our members the chance to really improve their orchestral and musical skills. We perform at least four concerts annually and tackle a wide range of challenging repertoire. This allows our members to continue growing in their abilities. Over the last year some our repertoire included: Poulenc's Sinfonietta, Sibelius Symphony No.2, Ravel's Tombeau de Couperin & Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker suite.
Sinfonietta is a friendly group of passionate musicians and, being a chamber orchestra means each orchestral part is much more significant. Our size always means we can create a real sense of community and friendship. We have weekly socials from dinner parties, movie nights, ice skating, pub crawls, trips to the pub or maccies after rehearsals, and also our Christmas Ball in December. Each year we also go on tour to a European country and it definitely a highlight of our calendar.
Rehearsals are held mostly on Thursday evenings at the university and auditions are held at the start of each new academic year. If you would like to join or find out more information about Sinfonietta, email us at email@example.com or check out our social media pages and website.

Our aims are to provide members with an incredibly valuable musical and social experience, inclusive of those wishing to engage in a future musical career, and those who study under other faculties at the university. Leading up to our concerts, our rehearsals are mostly held on Thursday evenings, and we occasionally hold rehearsals on Saturdays. Each year we cover a wide range of repertoire across all periods of music, and we aim to go on a European tour each year. Membership contributes a small amount towards being able to cover the costs of the hiring of music, professional conductors, venue hire, instruments and their means of transport and a tour which are all essential to the rich musical experience that Sinfonietta aims to provide.|
