1. Apologies and Attendance

Ellie Cawthera thanked everyone for attending and went through the attendees and apologies.

2. Minutes from the Last Meeting

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

3. Matters Arising from the Last Meeting
  • Chris Nash to work with Dudu’s Friends – Chris to chase.
  • All to read Elections PID and send comments – No comments received.
  • All to read External Engagement zone strategy and bring ideas – No ideas received.
  • Chris Nash to send Doodle Poll for next meeting – Done.

4. Officer and Student Led Reports

Ellie read through Jenny’s report.

 

Catie gave a verbal report:

  • Catie is unable to attend the NACUE Student Enterprise conference that is being held in Liverpool on January 31st/February 1st. Chris Nash will be attending with representatives from Enactus, Fish On Toast and the Women in Business Society. Ellie suggested that the society representatives could attend the next zone meeting to update the committee.
  • Catie is finding it difficult to contact Enactus. Shruti will give Catie a list of contacts.
  • Catie still does not have access to the Enterprise Officer email account. Chris will chase Democracy regarding this.

 

The Community Volunteering Officer has resigned from the position.

5. Student Led Fundraising

The Big Give

  •  The Big Give is the w/c 27th April 2015.
  • The Big Give Officer has been asked to resign, if he refuses to do this or does not respond the matter will go to the Disciplinary Committee.
  • Jenny and Ellie will be the leads for the Big Give.
  • There is a Big Give meeting on Wednesday 28th January 2015.
  • Ellie has been talking to various University departments, Halls and transport regarding having collection buckets and posters.
  • Jenny and Ellie are having a meeting with Santander regarding them matching the total raised for the Big Give, up to £3,500.00.
  • Ellie is contacting the Vice Chancellor’s office to see if he would like to donate.
  • Jenny is arranging for enterprise societies to have stalls during the week with a portion of profits going to the Big Give.
  • Jenny is trying to arrange a cross campus colour run, although it is difficult to get approval from the University and Facilities. Any other ideas can be brought to the Big Give meeting.
  • Ellie is looking into a daytime silent disco. The committee thought that this would be more popular if it was held in the evening.

 

The RAG total to date is £25,251.69 - the total for the same week last year was £20,328.63.

6. Student Enterprise Activity
  • A competition was held for enterprise groups and entrepreneurs to win a space at the market. The winners were the Crepe Shack and they will be at the market on 26th February 2015.
7. Community Action and Volunteering

Student Volunteering Week

Timetable Here.

  • Student Volunteering Week is w/c 23rd February 2015.
  • Ellie talked through the timetable for the week.
  • Ellie is making a tunnel for people to write their good deeds.
  • RAG are looking for a project to help one of their core charities.
  • A clean-up of the Portswood Rec is planned.

 

 

Ellie is looking into having Southampton Hub as a Union group. The first step is to find out if this is legal under charity law. The President would become a Student Leader but not on Union Council. Southampton Hub already have volunteering projects and would replace the functions of Community Action.

 

Chris explained the new structure for Student Leaders.

Shruti suggested that there should be a SUSU Liaison position on the committees of all enterprise societies. Chris advised that we can ask them to do this but not force them to.

8. External Community Engagement

Nothing to report.

9. General Elections
  • The website is currently in development. The committee were shown some sample web pages and a selection of logo ideas.
  • The website will contain information about registering to vote. It will also gather information regarding issues that are important to students. These will be put to the candidates and their replies will be posted on the website (without identifying the candidate/party). Students will then be able to select the replies that they agree with and the candidate/party information will only be displayed at the end of the process. There will also be facts and previous results information for each candidate/party.
  • The last day to register is the last day of the Easter holiday.
  • Ellie is organising hustings events for the four different constituencies that cover the University and its halls of residences. The website will have the facility to enter your postcode to find out which constituency you live in, information about your candidates and details of your hustings event.
  • The website will also include information about ‘what voting actually means’.
  • The Bridge will be open all night on 7th May for the results.
