2. Halls Round Up

Highfield Halls - Planning for Easter Egg Hunt to take place before the Easter Break. Welfare Officer looking at the possibility of producing a safety pack for new Freshers.

Bencraft Halls- Now have new equipment in the common room including speakers, yoga mats and snooker cues. Planning for event to take place before Halls closes

Connaught - Approximately 70 people turned up for the Pizza night held in the common room. Are looking on planning a few more socials to take place after the Easter Break

Gateway - Held Pizza Night and Pancake Night during February. Planning to have some more socials after the Easter Break

Chamberlain - Had a succesful evening at Jesters. During Feburary held a succesful pancake evening in conjunction with a social media contest. Welfare Officer has been working with the Union on a sexual health campaign and to date has handed out over 700 condoms. In conjunction with this, the Welfare Officer is also working on a sexual health booklet which would be distributed during Freshers 17-18. 

Monte - Held a charity event which raised between £100-£200. Monte currently electing for Block Reps with around 40 applicants to date. 

Sam Higman (SH) updated the committee on Election Results. SH welcomed the new Halls Officer (Tessa SURNAME) along with the relected VP Engagement (Dan Varley) who will be working with the committee from 17-18.

 

3. Halls Funding

Ressup Application for funding World Earth Day - Approved - £450.00

Monte Pizza Night - Approved (Costings to be confirmed and shared via Facebook prior to event)

Highfield Pizza Night - Approved - £150.00

4. Culture Festival

Ashley Hunt (AH) explained that Culture Festival 2017 will be taking place for 30th April - 6th May. AH advised that there will be event such as Holi, Global Village and WoW Festival taking place on Highfield Campus. This will coincide with events taking place at NOC, Avenue and WSA.

5. Elections Feeback

Flora Noble (FN) advised the Committee that Dan Varley had been elected for a second term as VP Engagement. FN explained that as of 17/18, the role of VP Engagement will be working with Halls Committees as opposed to VP Student Communties. 

FN further advised that the current Halls Officer, Sam Higman had been elected to the role of VP Welfare, and also welcomed the new Halls Officer for 17/18 Tess Voysey

 

Sam Higman (SH) discussed with the Committee on how they found the process. The following comment where recorded:

- Union having polling booths at Halls was useful

- Incentives where good

- Incentives may not be a true reflection of vote

- Manifesto print outs on concourse where useful

- Too much effort to go through manifesto

- Big list - confusing that you didnt have to vote for everyone

- Quite off putting

- Lots of scrolling on voting page

- People not aware of the importance

- Union website not clear

6. AOB

Dan Varley (DV) discussed the possibility of introducing Halls League, similar to that which other Union do. DV advised that if anyone has any ideas of what prizes can be included to contact DV.
