Canoe Polo
Watersports  Join
Canoe Polo combines kayaking and ball handling skills into an exciting contact team game, where tactics and positional play are as important as the speed and fitness of the individual players. The game requires excellent teamwork and promotes both general paddling skills and a range of other techniques unique to the sport. Each team has five players on the pitch (and up to three substitutes), who compete to score in their opponents goal which is suspended two metres above the water. The ball can be thrown by hand, or flicked with the paddle to pass between players and shoot at the goal. Paddling with the ball is not allowed, so teamwork is essential. Pitches can be set up in swimming pools or any stretch of flat water. The boats are specifically designed for Polo and are faster and lighter than typical kayaks which give them fantastic manoeuvrability. The boats also sport nose and tail bumpers for safety, and full face guards and specially padded buoyancy aids are also required to be worn at all times. SUCP Here in Southampton, SUCP represents the University at competitions all over the country, culminating in the annual British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) tournament in Nottingham. Competitions can range from one day pool meets to weekend camping trips, with three teams representing the club; the A team, B team and Ladies team. With regular training sessions both in the pool and on the river, SUCP is one of the most successful teams around, and you can be a part of it. Even if you aren't interested in competing, the club welcomes all to come and train with us. Anyone and everyone of any ability is welcome to join in, whether you are a seasoned player coming to the university, an experienced paddler looking to try something new or have never even been in a kayak, SUCP has a space for you. See you on the water!

Welcome to the Southampton Vixens Cheerleading and Dance page! Our club is made up of three squads; the Competition Squad, the Dance Squad and the Game Day Squad. Our Competition and Dance squad compete regionally and nationally. Whilst our game day squad perform at the Stags American Football teams games. It pleases us to say that this past season has been one of our most successful yet. At nationals our Competition squad beat one of their biggest rivals for the first time in 4 years. They came 2nd in a really competitive division and cannot wait to fight for first place next year. Our Dance squad also had an amazing season winning Regional, National and overall Grand championship titles. This years coaches cannot wait to replicate this next season. This year, our Game day squad have continued to grow from strength to strength. Putting out one of the hardest routines we have seen from them at Show day and hitting zero. We cannot wait to see the same successes replicated in the 17-18 season. Vixens integrate greatly within the Athletic Union by having weekly socials, fundraisers and attending Varsity. We also aim to have a big presence within the wider community; this year we raised £477.70 for the Southampton Hospital Charity Physiotherapy fund. We hope to continue to raise money for such deserving charities this following year. Vixens is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people whether you have Cheer and Dance experience or not. Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA. The name comes from the Portuguese Futebol de salão, which can be translated as "indoor soccer". The Laws of the game are set by FIFA & UEFA associations. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of 5-aside football, the games are played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey sized goals and a size 4 ball with a reduced bounce. It is played between touchlines (walls or boards are not used) and all players are free to enter the penalty area and play the ball over head-height. Games are 20 minutes per half, played to a stopping clock (similar to basketball) with time-outs permitted. The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, quick thinking, creativity and technique, as well as ball control and passing in small spaces and under pressure. Many of the top world class footballers played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development; players of the calibre of Pele, Zico, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Xavi, Fabregas amongst many others have played Futsal to develop their skills. Southampton University Futsal Club will participate and compete, for the first time since its establishment, in BUCS 2014/2015 Western 1A League and Trophy. The club will also organise weekly friendly matches / Intra-tournaments for its regular members. Karate-Do Shotokai
Martial Arts  Join
Thinking of taking up a Martial Art or just want to learn self defence? Then try KDS Karate! One of the main reasons people take up a martial art is to learn to defend oneself. With regular practice, KDS karate can teach you how to do this effectively. KDS emphasises mobility, co-ordination, timing and balance with a relaxed body condition. This means that KDS karate can be practised by anyone regardless of age, build or sex. KDS karate teaches far more than how to fight - in our training we mainly practise with a partner, as we have found over many years that this develops self-confidence and makes learning karate a very rewarding experience. There is another reason to practice Karate-do Shotokai - a great social life. So if you're new to Southampton or have been here for some time, it is a great way to meet people. We have regular social events throughout the year and all of the national courses we attend/host have an evening social event where you get to meet people from clubs throughout the country and across Europe! The Southampton University KDS Karate Club was founded by Steve Hope, the longest serving member of the KDS in the UK, who was recently awarded an honorary degree by Southampton University for his services to the club. SUKDS has now been in existence for over 30 years and is one of the strongest in the UK's KDS organisation. The club hosts a number of international courses during the year and members regularly travel to other courses around the country. Normal club sessions are led by the club's senior instructor Gavin Rothwell (5th Dan) and several other black belt instructors. For the Friday night senior practice we are lucky enough to have both Tony Lima (5th Dan) and Steve Hope (5th Dan), both members of the KDS technical executive committee. The training atmosphere is friendly and informal, and there are regular social events organised throughout the year. Practice times/venues for 2017-2018: Tuesday 17:00 - 19:00 Activities Room Saturday 9:00 - 11:00 Activities Room Friday 18:30 - 20:00 Martial Arts Room (Seniors by invitation only) If you want to try or join SUKDS please email sukds@soton.ac.uk or turn up to one of our training sessions on Tuesday or Saturday. Korfball

Korfball is a mixed gender Dutch sport with similarities to basketball and netball. SUKC was established in 2012 by a handful of players who already knew the sport. Within a year, they had assembled and trained up a cohort of Spartans - all new to the sport - and surprised everyone by finishing 5th at Nationals. Boosted by its early success, SUKC's membership exploded in 2014 with a second team already filling out. The Spartans climbed to 3rd place at Nationals, with our very own Nikesh Patel voted as player of the tournament. An incredible achievement for someone who had started just a year ago. Our Spartan pros, Alex Bell and Kate Hotton, were also called up to represent England at the U21 European Championships. How did SUKC celebrate its third birthday? With the treble of course. Not only were the Spartans crowded National Champions, they went undefeated in both the league and the OKA Chris Carter Cup! To polish off a perfect season, Alex Bell, Kate Hotton, Nikesh Patel and Emma Bryant made the GB World Cup squad. Fancy yourself as a Spartan? Want to contribute to 2017/18's success? We'll train you up - no prior experience is required. Contact us on korfball@soton.ac.uk or get in touch through our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

That said our team is an eclectic mix of players from all over the country and of every body shape and fitness level imaginable. Becoming a Trident needs no experience, most of our players had never held a Lacrosse stick before they came to us but trust us, you pick it up fast. Being a Trident is also about more than just lacrosse, we go out on a weekly basis for social nights and go on tour to mainland Europe every year, these are guaranteed to create some of the best memories of University you will have. We train every Thursday evening 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Wide Lane and have three teams, one for experienced players, one for intermediate players and one for beginners, that play matches most Sunday afternoons. We welcome all levels of ability, so if you're a hardened pro or a complete beginner, we'd love to meet you! With SUMC you join more than just a club, we're an extended family with returning alumni from all over the UK. Get climbing outside, with fortnightly weekend meets all over the UK and our annual Christmas trip abroad. For plastic junkies, we organise weekly trips to indoor walls and training nights at the Uni bouldering wall. We also represent Team Southampton at climbing competitions. Socials are held every week and range from movie nights to Sumo suits to good old-fashioned pub crawls. Unofficially, our members get up to adventures year round, skiing in the Alps, bouldering in France, ice climbing in Norway, mountaineering in Peru, not to mention rock climbing almost every weekend. Whatever gets you psyched, there's the opportunity to do it with SUMC. Find out more at www.su-mc.org.

We can't go as far as saying that Spikeball will make you better looking, more likeable and finally be able to talk to that cute person across the street... but it will. Spikeball is a team sport played by two teams of two players around a Spikeball set. Opposing teams line up across from each other with the Spikeball set in the centre. The ball is put into play with a serve. Once the ball is served the players can move anywhere they want-there are no sides and boundaries. The object of the game is to hit the ball onto the net so that the opposing team cannot return it. Each team is allowed up to three touches to return the ball, similar to volleyball. In TriVolle, possession changes when the ball hits off the net. The ball cannot hit the rim and must get off the net in one bounce. The rally continues until the ball isn't returned properly. Spikeball is currently the fastest growing sport in America with over 1 million players. Here's why: https://youtu.be/FLfGpcA2Pl8 Now put your tongue back in your mouth and come and #jointhemovent because #weaintlikinifyouaintspikin.
