Starting salary: £36,914 - £40,322, with potential progression to £45,361

Full-time, permanent position, 35 hours per week. The role is temporarily remote due to home-working, however it will be based at the Students’ Union on the Highfield Campus, University of Southampton.

Are you an experienced HR/People professional looking for an exciting new challenge within an not-for-profit organisation? If so, the University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU) has an exciting new opportunity for a Head of People to join the team!

The Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Head of People to lead our People Team to develop and implement activities which will enable us to recruit, retain, rewards, and develop the best talent. Our current Director of People is moving onto a new challenge and we have decided to appoint a Head of People to be a key part of our senior management team.

Working alongside our elected student officers and core staff, you will manage employee relations and develop a positive culture which is fair and supportive, and advise, support, and develop staff to ensure our immediate and long-term people and organisational requirements are met.

About You
You will be committed to and enthusiastic about the development of yourself and our people, and about developing and maintaining a positive, fair, and supportive culture within our organisation. You will ideally be CIPD qualified, however we will consider the right candidate with equivalent specialist experience. You will have strong experience as a practicing people professional, with up to date employment law, legislation, and HR process knowledge, and of providing top quality people advice to managers. You will also be a team leader and an experienced people manager, able to empower your team.

The University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU) exists to ensure every student loves their time at Southampton. We are a registered charity with a £7M turnover and provide a comprehensive platform of offers, support, representation, services and spaces for our members to enhance the overall University experience across a number of campuses. We have approximately 65 core staff, and around 300 casual staff employed throughout the year.
