Complete

The toilet roll is like tissue paper and very unpleasant, we pay £9000 a year, I think the university can afford better toilet roll

Hello again!

I'm back with another update, as this issue is still being discussed within the Library:

Following our conversation earlier, I have spoken with Halls who have updated me on their trial of alternative toilet rolls. One of the alternatives hasn’t worked as well as they hoped so they are going to trial something else.

In the meantime, the academic sites will remain using the same toilet roll as we are now. As there have been no toilet blockages since using a 1 ply toilet roll, we will continue to use 1 ply in the library until further notice. I fear that if we refer back to 2 ply, toilet blockages will increase which will impact on the student experience.

Blocked toilets are obviously less than ideal for all involved, but it is good to hear that trials of a superior alternative are still ongoing. I'll let you know if I have any new information going forward!

Best wishes,

Hello again!

The trial with Estates & Facilities is still underway at the moment, and since this is likely going to take some time I'm going to close this You Make Change submission in the meantime. Should anything change significantly in the meantime I'll be sure to open it again!

Thanks for making the submission, and all the best,

Samuel Dedman

Hello again!

I'm back with another update from the Library:

Estates are  in the process of exploring alternative toilet paper. Halls of Residences are trialling a different toilet paper at the moment and they will be meeting  in the next few weeks to get some feedback and see if it is something we can adopt on other sites.  This different paper has a toilet roll dispenser that dispenses one sheet at a time and although it is 2 ply, it will hopefully discourage over use which contributes to toilets blocking.

Do keep the voting happening, but it looks like there is progress on this project regardless.

All the best,

Samuel Dedman

Hello again!

I have an interim update from the Library, though remember that voting is still live for this particular submission:

The toilet paper has been changed recently as there have been a large number of blockages in the Hartley Library toilets particularly at weekends and the paper was changed to see if this would minimise or prevent these blockages occuring.  I will follow this up in light of your request with Estates and send a response .

I'll hopefully be back in the near future with a further update, but keep that voting happening in the meantime!

All the best,

Samuel Dedman

Hello!

Thank you for your You Make Change submission. This is certainly one of the stranger submissions that I've ever dealt with, but I'm going to do my best to make your dreams of better toilet roll happen. As a starting point I've passed your submission to the Library to see what their thoughts are. Their response, in combination with any voting that takes place, will determine the next steps.

Your You Make Change is now live on the SUSU website (https://www.susu.org/you-make-change/1040), so please make sure you share the link around. The more votes, the more likely it is to happen!

All the best,

Samuel Dedman
