Ensure that PGRs have continued access to email after thesis submission

Complete
Currently, PGRs do not have the option to open an alumni email, which would migrate contacts.

Surely, PGRs in particular require continued access to their emails?
Further, it should also be noted that in the current employment climate many recently completed PGRs are not able to obtain employment in another higher education institution but wish to, and are determined to, continue working in their field of interest and undertake research. In such an situation access to a higher education institution email would be hugely beneficial and would be a clear sign of the University’s commitment to continuing support.

Hi Michael,
I have now taken over this from Emily as PGRs now sit under Education and Democracy. I have spoken to iSolutions and the Doctoral College. They both had said pre-2013 is hard to get a hold of due to issues on the servers, but anything after 2013 should be automatically changed. If not, it is best to speak to iSolutions in person as they just need to do something on the back end to allow access to the account. I hope this has helped.
Kind regards,
Jo Lisney, VP Education&Democray 2019-20, vpeddem@soton.ac.uk

Hi Michael,
I come back to you with a positive update!
Having contacted the Doctoral College about this, I have been informed that with the migration to the Office 365 system across the University this should now be possible. They are currently working on this and we hope it will be resolved soon, so keep your eyes out!
Kind regards,
Emily Harrison,
Vice President Student Communities, 2018-19.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for your You Make Change submission.
I absolutely agree with you and it seems strange that this is not already the case. I will raise this with the Doctoral College and iSolutions and come back to you with an update as soon as I have one.
Kind regards,
Emily Harrison,
Vice President Student Communtiies, 2018-19.
