Urge library to improve lighting

It is too dark in most of the library study spaces. Please raise an issue with the library to improve this.

Hello!

Since this You Make Change has been live for a couple of weeks now with no further updates I'm going to mark it as Complete. However should you wish to flag any particular areas of the Library I would urge you to drop me an email and I'll do what I can to progress things from there.

Thanks again for your submission to You Make Change!

Best wishes,

Sam Dedman (SUSU VP Education 2017-19, vpeducation@susu.org)

Hello again!

I'm pleased to confirm that the Library have replied to me with the following details:

In the last three years Hartley Library has upgraded lighting as part of the following summer upgrades:

  • Upgrades to Levels 1, 2 & 4 (any area which has new furniture will have new lighting above it)
  • Training Rooms 4075 & 4077
  • All Public Access Workstation Room (4 Rooms containing approximately 200 computers)
  • Assistive Technology Rooms
  • Emergency Lighting throughout the building

The number of old energy inefficient lights replaced by high luminosity LED lamps runs into hundreds of new units.

There remain many spaces in the Library where the lighting has yet to be upgraded.  Estates have identified these locations.  If you are able to correspond with the student who raised their concern about lighting and could ask them to locate areas they find problematic, I will bring this to Estates attention.

I hope this provides some reassurance that this issue is being taken seriously by the University. However they are (as stated above) keen to prioritise areas based on student demand, so I'd encourage you to let me know in the comments if there are spaces which are particularly dark.

Let me know in the comments below, or in an email (address below).

Best wishes,

Sam Dedman (SUSU VP Education 2017-19, vpeducation@susu.org)

Hello!

Thank you for your submission to You Make Change. I'm going to pass this on to the Library, but could do with knowing about any spaces where you think this is a particular issue?

Let me know either in the comments below, or in an email (address below).

Best wishes,
