make Hartley Library warm

It is too cold in Hartley Library. My fellow students and I have to put on our heaviest winter coats but still feel cold, and have finally caught a cold now. Perhaps because of this low temperature, it is difficult to find a study place where there is no one coughing, sniffing or sneezing, when winter hasn't even come. The low temperature and sickness that it caused has severely impeded studying and researching. It is our understanding that students have the right to study and research in the library without having to become unwell. We would highly appreciate it if this problem could be solved as soon as possible. Thank you very much!

Hi there,

Thank you for your You Make Change. The library is aware there is an issue with temperature in the building. However, the university has just turnt on the heating as of the 10th October. Hopefully this will help with keeping students warm. Likewise, the library/estates and facilites will be walking around the library to check for temperature hot/cold spots to adjust where it needs to be. This should also make it easier for students to complain and get it sorted as quickly as possible.

Kind regards,

Jo Lisney, VP Education&Democracy 2019-20, (vpeddem@soton.ac.uk)
