Plant Pot Scheme to Create more meeting rooms

Can the union comment on the rumours circulating which state that creating the vegan friendly cafe is a method to increase meeting rooms space. SUSU staff members have stated that the vegan friendly cafe is projected to make a loss, and SUSU plans to utilise this loss as a pitch to take over the area for meeting room space.

Hi there,

Thank you for your You Make Change submission.

I can confirm that this rumour is absolutely false and there is no conspiracy to use The Plant Pot as more meeting room space. It is true that The Plant Pot is making a loss. However, this is nothing new as the Cafe did before this and catering as a whole does not operate at a profit. This is the case across the sector as catering does not tend to make money but is provided as a service for students. As a Students' Union our focus is always going to be on students so any money that catering does make goes back into our other services and functions for the student body.
