Corporate promotions on the Redbrick

This week there have been promotional events on the Redbrick for a different company every day.

Presumably, this is an initiative that has been offered by SUSU in order to open a new avenue of profit. Would it be possible for SUSU to disclose how much each of the companies payed for this privilege?

Given that the Redbrick is a Student's Union space, and therefore primarily for students, I think it is appropriate that the members of the Union are informed of the details regarding financial transactions involved in hiring this space to corporations for self-promotion. Hopefully SUSU will agree with me that this is relevant for the students, and will disclose this information.

Hi there,

Having spoken to our senior leadership team, I can confirm that unfortunately we are not able to provide financial information beyond that which is available in our accounts which are published on our website. These are our full financial accounts which are publiched here: https://www.susu.org/about/facts-and-figures.html As the financial year runs different to the calendar and academic year, we are still in the process of collating all of this information ready to publish so 2019 is not yet avilable.

To be aware, the accounts will show the total figure of income for promotional opportunities such as the one you are referring to and will not break down individual transactions with each company. This is because this is information is commercially sensitive.

However, although we do make a commerical income from leasing this space for activities, this money goes directly back into services and activities which support students experience such as financial grants for our 300+ clubs and societies, our Advice Centre and everything else that the Students' Union offers.

If you would like to discuss this further or have any more questions, please feel free to get in touch with me via president@soton.ac.uk

Kind regards,

Emily Harrison,

SUSU President, 2019-20
