Encourage the University to create an notification service if optional modules clash on timetable

Complete

Although it is possible to manually search each module's lectures times, it is time consuming and impratical. There should be a service that alerts a student when the two or more modules they have chosen clash so there is time to correct this. At the moment there is no service which means students may miss out on the module they want to do and have to settle for one they are not interested in due to a lack of spaces, or miss the first couple of lectures as they are trying to reoganise their timetable.

Hi again,

Timetabling are aware of the importance to students of being made aware of clashes in the timetable as early as possible. They have decided to fully review of their processes and approach to this from this feedback to enable them to provide a better service for students.

As part of this, they are committed to contacting individual students who have clashes that may require attention on their timetable and advising them of the actions they can take in advance of the deadline for module changes so as to minimise the impact of changing a module at this stage.  Timetabling have begun to implement this for the start of semester 2 and will have this rolled out fully for the next academic year.

In addition, to support this work they are also looking at how they can use the online timetables and MySouthampton app to support this work and are working closely with technical colleagues to discover what is possible.

Timetabling also want to hear from students about how they want us to communicate this to them and how they can provide a better service and would welcome any feedback on this or any other aspect of the timetable.

Kind regards,
