Stop SURGE radio broadcasting in Bar 2

Complete

Especially during the day, as many students use it to study and the content (not to mention the volume), does not make this easy at all. It's not a quiet space due to Bar 3 and the stairs, but with surge playing it becomes an almost hostile one.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that it has been so unpleasant in bar 2 for you. I have been down to check on several occasions and have found it to be either off or quite quiet - I have spoken to facilities and they usually turn it on in the morning and set it at a quiet volume but it often gets turned up during busy periods and then not always turned back down. The volume is controlled behind reception so if the volume is ever at hostile levels you can go to the reception desk and they will be able to turn it down - however I have already spoken to them and it should be checked on more carefully now!

Unfortunately turning off Surge completely isn't an option as we are committed to playing them around our building and it is important to us that Surge are given this opportunity. We don't advertise Bar 2 as a study space in part because of this - if you are keen to study in the SUSU building but find it too loud there, I would recommend booking out Meeting Room 1 or 2, they are on the first floor and quite out of the way - they're also a good space to work as a group and have a computer and display screen.

I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to get in contact if you are finding the music isn't being turned down to an appropriate level!

Thanks,

Fiona Sunderland, VP Activities 2019-20 (vpactivities@susu.org)
