Make mental health check-ins automatic

Under the present circumstances most students are stressed, many severely so. Too many suffer in silence and this leaves them without support and leaves the university unaware of how students are affected by online teaching. I would suggest PATs (or other appropriate staff) check in with students a couple of times a term, especially in the lead up to exams, to try to gauge this and signpost students to support services / special considerations.

Hi there,
Thank you for this. PATs are already expected to do this so it is unfortunate to hear that this is the case. I completely agree that many are struggling under current conditions, and are unfortunately going unnoticed. I will work with Avila (VP Education and Democracy) to ensure that PATs are reminded of this to ensure no student slips through the cracks.
Please feel free to contact Avila or I directly if you have any further queries or suggestions.
