Provide some Gluten Free Lunch items in the Shop

I'm surprised that SUSU hasn't listened to any comments asking for Gluten free / free from lunch foods in the shop yet. On this forum alone i've found requests going back 4 years. I have asked more than once over the three years I've been a postgrad here. SUSU claims they're doing enough to provide but it just isn't good enough. When you can provide a variety of vegan, halal and specialist asian food you can't tell me that gluten free food is too difficult to provide. I even met with the catering services manager, who assured me things would change, but alas a year later it's still impossible to eat lunch on campus as a coeliac unless that lunch is a packet of crisps. What do you eat for lunch?  All we want is a sandwich. A wrap. A salad that isn't covered in croutons or pasta. In 2021, where it is easy to find someting suitable in town, and after knowing other university campuses successfully cater for us, this university is appalling. I dont want to hear that you tried to offer a gluten free sandwich 6 years ago and it didn't make enough profit. Source more affordable gf sandwiches and look after for your students' health instead of focussing on their wallets.

Dear student,

I would like to update you on the progress having been made on this topic and am welcoming any further feedback as the progress is made.

We now have three regular gluten free options in the shop including a sandwich and wrap options, and have a great salad bar in the Plant Pot with clearly labeled allergen advice and a plethora of options for you to enjoy.

We will also expand our gluten free range in the shop too, more information to come on that soon.

I hope that for now these options are acceptable and look forward to hearing any feedback that you have.

Many thanks,

Ella Foxhall, VP Activities

To whom it may concern,

Thank you for your suggestion and I apologies for any inconveniences this has caused you. I am working on this project to ensure that gluten free food is available on campus, as well as the option gluten free vegans, and keto meals to accommodate all allergens. As someone who is gluten intolerant, I can understand your frustration and am working on making your YMC a reality, as I also struggle with finding available food. Would it be agreeable to you if we were to schedule a meeting to discuss this matter fully?

Best wishes,

Ella Foxhall,
