Complete

I have been in touch with Estates who say they are keen on the idea, but in order to make sure it does happen, it would be great to have one of the lovely Sabbs backing the idea in Estates meetings! This is a great way for the University to become more sustainable and meet the needs of students within the community.

Hi Lottie,

Thank you for this 'You Make Change' submission!

I spoke to Estates about this the other day and they have said, "This option has been explored in the past and it is not an efficient option.  All of our food waste is taken off site to an anaerobic digestion plant, which is efficient in both financial and environmental terms.". To gain more insight into this, I am exploring organising a visit to the site to have a look at this process and facility. I will feed this information back through social media.

I will be closing this submission now. If you have any follow up questions please feel free to send me an email at president@soton.ac.uk or submit another YMC.

All the best,

Oliver Murray

That's a shame as they said something different to me! I'm glad the food waste gets composted (sort of), but my worry is also what if people put non-food waste in the food waste bins, then what happens!?
