Create a homestuff bin

Complete

There should be a place (in halls) to donate pots, pans, kitchenwear and bedding, for other students to come in and take as they please, or give to a charity partner. Thousands of single semester students come to the university, buy new items as needed and then throw them away as charity shops don't take them and they cannot take the kitchen items back with them. This creates waste, especially as the next wave of semester abroad students come in and have to buy the exact same items. This is not in line with SUSU's sustainability policy.

Hi Tasneem,

Having met with the University's Residences Team, I am pleased to confirm that they will be putting resources towards the implementation of these collection bins during move out. As you have pointed out, this will be incredibly beneficial from a sustainability angle, but also a cost-of-living perspective, potentially saving students quite large sums of money.

I am going to close this submission now as work has been actioned. If you have any further questions please feel free to make another submission or email me directly at president@soton.ac.uk

All the best,

Oliver Murray

Hi Tasneem,

Thank you for your submission!

I have reached out to the Associate Director of the University's Residences Team to see if we can get something in place for move out at the end of this academic year. I will let you know their response and what the action points will be moving forwards.

All the best,

Oliver Murray
