Holding Posh Pads to account on 2019 promises

Hiya,

In 2019, after a You Make Change post regarding Posh Pads' malpractice, 2019's VP WelCom arranged a meeting in which Posh Pads promised 4 commitments on the bases of advertisement in halls, house maintenance, deposit returns and communication with the university body.

It is clear four years on from campus-wide sentiment that Posh Pads have utterly failed in these commitments, particularly those regarding frivolous maintenance fees, which they notably dodged in their original statement, opting instead to talk only about timely responses.

Speaking of which, they continue to take deposits and they continue to not return them via abusing mydeposits' 30 day correspondence rule, something which they also promised they would stop back in 2019.

It is very good to hear that SUSU is planning on building a case against Posh Pads to bring to the Trading Standards Service - will the Union also hold this agency accountable on the promises they made to the Union, seeing as they have been publicly known to break these promises since 2020?

Thank you for your submission!

Myself and relevant staff members from both SUSU and the University have now had a meeting with representatives from Posh Pads. We laid out as many concerns and queries from the student body as we could in our meeting and Posh Pads told us they were going to work to rectify them this year. If anyone feels that Posh Pads aren't upholding their responsibilities as a landlords, I urge you to contact the SUSU advice centre who can provide free, confidential advice and we can keep a track on whether Posh Pads truly are working to rectify their practices.

If you have any further queries or would like to discuss this further, feel free to email me at president@soton.ac.uk
