Since the introduction of free laundry in Wessex Lane there has been significant demand which is of course expected. Who doesn’t love free laundry!
However due to this a number of issues have arisen, these would be solved by better regulation and organisation.
Points:
Significant number of students are underfilling machines, sometimes just 1 towel or a couple of items.
Inappropriate items are being put into machines and dryers such as shoes/ trainers.
Due to demand students are throwing clothes into lost property and on the floor when cycles have finished.
Tissues and paper left in clothing which stays behind in the machines after clothes are removed.
Furthermore, the machines installed reduce the wash cycle down to 1 minute when the start button is continuously pressed. Students have been doing this when demand is high and of course this lead to incomplete wash cycles and residue left on clothing.
Many thanks

Thank you for your submission!
I appreciate you raising these concerns to me, I have spoken with the Residences Team at the University who have said they will look into putting up more signage around the laundry rooms in halls. Hopefully this will increase awareness for students around using the laundry facilities.
If you have any further queries or would like to discuss this further, feel free to email me at president@soton.ac.uk
