Fix the U7 Timetable.

The U7 was introduced in September 2024, it ran only on weekdays during term time, having only 6 buses run throughout the day - either running from 7:30-9:30AM, 3PM, 5PM and 6PM. Right now in November 2025, the U7 route decreased in frequency running 5 times a day, the latest being at 5:25PM.
We were told that the U7 was going to improve, by having more frequent times for their journeys so students at WSA would be able to have much faster, easier links to Highfield Campus. A lot of students have paid for the WSA Bus Pass, since the majority of WSA's students commute from Southampton to Winchester for their lectures, but lately this is becoming more difficult due to how the Bluestar 1 is often held up by delays and traffic and the U7 would not get anyone to their lectures ontime even if they did take the ones that ran in the morning, the earliest being 9:30AM.
We want the U7 to be more worth it, more frequent and actually make the students at WSA feel connected to the rest of the university as being a student who has lived in Winchester, it was very difficult to go to society events, attend classes and it felt like we didn't have a proper university experience.

Hi there,
I've passed the feedback along to Unilink - and it's looking possible to make the timetabling changes - but expect it to take a while as timetabling changes need approval from the traffic commissioner and related parties. I will mark this You Make Change as completed but I am continuing to work on this and fight for these changes to be made as the U7 is at the top of my transport priority list.
Thank you for the You Make Change submission and feel free to send more suggestions, either on here, or email me president@soton.ac.uk if you'd like to get more involved in passing along WSA feedback as I'd love to hear your thoughts.
All the best,

Hi there,
Thank you so much - this links into my current transport projects so I'm happy you raised this. The U7 is my top priority in transport at the moment due to how much WSA students need it, and are affected by it. I've gathered lots of feedback about the U7 and my main goals will be to:
- Improve the timetabling so that buses sync up to lecture times
- Better frequency of buses, at the appropriate times throughout the day
- Look into extending the route to Erasmus park halls for student safety and convenience
From my meetings with Unilink I found out that they reduced the number of buses as some times were unpopular - however I see that's very easily fixed by running the buses at the appropriate times. I'm meeting with the transport manager of the university today and I will be bringing the feedback I've gathered, and update you on the progress soon.
In the meantime, if you have any other feedback regarding buses, feel free to submit it here on You Make Change, or email me president@soton.ac.uk
All the best,
Emma Brown
