Engaging Students

Hi there,

I'm sure you're inundated with lots of things to do with the rebrand but I wanted to chip in and maybe help with the student engagement side of things? I know a lot of people have felt that there was a lack of student engagement on the rebrand and I would agree that although you did hold a survey and run workshops and had union council meetings, there maybe wasn't enough publicity about the rebrand.

With this in mind, maybe next time a big change happens and a survey is needed perhaps all the SaBB's should share the survey on social media platforms such as twitter/facebook, as emails are easily overlooked unfortunately. There could have even been a post on Southampton tell him/tell her which reaches thousands of students. Adding to this, our course representatives and students reps should share it too to raise awareness. Most subjects and societies have facebook pages it easily could have been shared on to achieve engagement. Even a physical campaign on the red brick for a couple of days maybe pushing a week would have been nice to see perhaps done in a similar fashion to how the student elections are advertsised.

I understand you can't do this for everything you want to engage students on for fear of spamming, but for big changes such as a rebrand steps like these I think would help :)

Sorry if this has been of no use to you, and you already took these measures but I thought it was worth mentioning if you hadn't for future changes :)

Hey,

This is all great feedback – some of it is stuff we tried to do but it didn’t reach as far as we’d hoped, but other things are definitely new areas we need to try (like the TH/TH page). The balance between raising awareness and spamming is one I haven’t perfected, but I agree we have lots to learn from our big annual campaigns.

This has definitely been of use, and will all be useful in the future – thanks for getting in touch!
