Printing credits

Hello.

I have discussed this with a lot a lot of people and everyone agrees that for each semester we should be given a certain amount of free printer credits from the university. To be able to print a couple of pages free each semester. Obviously if you need to print more than the allocated amount given you would pay to top them up which no one would have an issue with. Personally, my secondary school used to do this and I feel they had less money to spend than this university. Myself and others feel this is very reasonable and would love to hear back.

Many thanks,

Dear Ellen,

Printing credits is an issue that comes up time and time again, and with good reason! Not only are many students unable to print for free across the University, but there is great disparity among Faculties and Departments, with some students having access to much more than others. The Union’s Education Zone met a few weeks ago and discussed this issue, and whilst we agreed that getting the University to give free printer credits might be unfeasible given years of failed attempts, we have come up with a few ideas. Most importantly, we want to keep pushing for the University to become less reliant on printed paper, specifically pushing for online submission, feedback and evaluations. Not only would this be more environmentally friendly, but would hopefully mean students would be required to print less, relieving that burden. Whilst there will always be reasons to be print, such as for note taking, if the amount required by students is lessened then potentially free printing could become feasible.
