have a microwave station at Heartley Library

Complete

Students who study at the library all day need to walk to the SUSU building to use the microwave station. I would suggest having a microwave station at Heartley Library (maybe in the entrance/lobby area). The library is also open 24hrs but with no access to microwaves 24 hours.

Hi Francine,

Just as an update on your submission - it has now hit the 20 upvotes required for us to take it forward, and should prove to be a useful resource in future conversations with the University.

I'm going to close this submission for now, but will re-open it with any updates later down the line.

Thanks for getting in touch and all the best,

Hi Francine,

Thanks for getting in touch - the issue of microwaves in Hartley is one that has been raised quite a lot with 5 You Make Changes submitted, and I wholeheartedly agree that they are a fantastic idea. The response that I last recieved from the Library reads as follows:

We have investigated microwaves but we are currently unable to install microwaves in the Library.  However, we are doing the following:-

  • We are having ongoing talks with Catering on improving the food available in the vending machines.  This is all part of a strategic look at all vending machines around the campus

I've spoken with the team, and we've agreed that we'll continue to push this issue based on student feedback. Your idea suggestion is now live on the You Make Change website, and I'd urge you to share it among other students to get them to vote on it. More votes make it much easier for us to make a case to the University.

I'll continue working on it in the meantime, but don't hesitate to get in touch with me (vpeducation@susu.org) if you have any more questions.

All the best,

Samuel Dedman (VP Education 2017/18)
