have phone charging lockers

Complete

Or a place where students can rent (for free) phone chargers for a short period of time. More than one occassion I have found myself with my device about to run out of battery but am in urgent need to use it for personal and uni work reasons. Airports and shopping malls have lockers where you can lock your phone away for 30 mins / an hour and I think it will be really beneficial if this was available for students too.

Hello again!

This You Make Change has been open for a few weeks now, and I'm pleased to say that I have a few updates:

  1. The phone chargers which I mentioned above have been at Hartley for a few weeks now, and there are plans to make them available at other University of Southampton site libraries as well.
  2. The Library really like the idea of the charging lockers, but need to find the funds and space before being able to do anything about it.
  3. I'm planning on doing some work this year to invest in SUSU-based study spaces, with there potentially being further investment in charging lockers around our spaces.

In the meantime I'm going to close this You Make Change, but will re-open it should there be any further updates. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me on vpeducation@susu.org if you have any more thoughts on this topic!

All the best,

Samuel Dedman (VP Education 2017-19, vpeducation@susu.org)

Hi Chira!

Thanks for getting in touch. There are a few bits of positive news that I can share on this topic:

  1. The SUSU Cafe already hosts a few charging lockers, with SUSU Reception looking after the keys. While you will need to supply your own plug and cable, this has space for everything up to laptop-size.
  2. The Library have some phone chargers on order for students to use, although I'm not sure if they have arrived yet. I'll chase up with the Library now and see where we are at.

This is by no means perfect, but is definitely a step in the right direction. On that note this You Make Change is now live on the SUSU website, so voting on your idea can now take place. Make sure you send the link around to your peers - the more student input, the better!

All the best,

Samuel Dedman (VP Education 2017/18, vpeducation@susu.org)
