Student facilities are very poor at Southampton General Hospital. We hardly have any. Not sure how it's acceptable for 1,250 students to share ONE tiny common room.

Hi there!

Firstly, thank you for your You Make Change submission!

I can definitely understand your concerns. The renovation of common spaces across our sites is something which I wrote into my manifesto as I recognised the disparity in quality and need.

In light of this, I am happy to say that your You Make Change submission comes at a time where we are actually in the process of reviewing our spaces and making a comprehensive strategy for our presence and facilities at sites, including Southampton General Hospital. Myself and the Union President, Emily Dawes, were at SGH this week to review options for how and where we can expand our common facilities. I can't say for definite at this time when these updates will be finished, however we have been offered more space by the University and we are in the process of deciding where this should be and what it will look like. To this end, we will be having student consultation with students studying at SGH in September about how they use the space and what they would like to get some input into how we update the common area facilities. Rest assured, I will be posting updates about this on my Sabbatical Officer Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/suvpcomms.southampton) so please feel free to head over there to keep up-to-date about the progress!

In the meantime if you have other questions, queries or concerns, please feel free to drop me an email at vpsites@susu.org.

Many thanks,

Emily Harrison, VP Student Communities 2018/19
