Stop printing paper tickets for events!

Complete

The Union could be heading towards sustainable change by stopping printing paper tickets for events from the box office. Instead, they can do electronic tickets that save paper waste, and also solve issues like people losing their tickets and not being able to attend the events. If people want tickets as memories, they can print out an electronic one themself! But it would save lots of paper waste and also help printing costs by the Union too

Hi there,

Please find the response from our Services team about paper ticket printing:

"We are currently reviewing all of our Box Office operations and in line with our current policies will look to reduce our carbon footprint throughout this service. If we can avoid using printed tickets for any future events we will certainly ensure we adopt this policy."

SUSU does do a lot of work to improve the environmental impact of the organisation- such as a lot of work around reducing food wastage from all of our outlets, 25% of our restaurant menu being vegan, offering 25p off hot drinks with reusable cups in our outlets and our One-by-One range in The Shop.

Facts about the usage/ impact of the One-by-One range:

It began in February with two items metal straws and bamboo toothbrushes

Over that 8 month period we have sold -378 toothbrushes

-574 metal straws

-733 keep Cups

Since then we have introduced

-          metal reusable cutlery 75 items

-          menstrual cups 15 (been in store since July)

New items introduced in October:

-          wooden combs

-          straw cleaner

-          coconut scouring cleaning pad (100% biodegradable)

-          100% Vegan, biodegradable cotton ear buds.

-          - Solid shampoo and conditioning bars. 100% handmade with natural oils.

We have a collection of recycled pens, pads and books. Only been in place for a month or so with over 500 being sold.

By switching over from costa, to our ethical coffee we have removed 16305 of non-recyclable/plastic cups.

Our coffee cups are bio compostable and we encourage use of our keep cups- particuarly by offering half price reductions for these cups in many of our outlets over the Freshers' month.

If you would like to be involved in sustainability projects/ student voice advocacy about these topics please do come to the next Sustainability Zone meeting, taking place 26th November 1pm-3pm.

Thank you for your submission.

Best wishes,
