How many players are registered for the 2018/19 Intramurual season (minimum cost £110) compared to the 2016/17 season (when the fee to play was £30)?

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your submission.

There were 885 students signed up to intramural in the 2016/17 academic year and 1218 students signed up in the last year.

Part of the reason for this increase in sign-ups is because of the change in Sport and Wellbeing's policy on intramural players. The policy in 2016/17 was that the cost to compete was a £30 admin fee regardless of whether a student had membership to Sport and Wellbeing. Since last year the policy has been that all students with Sport and Wellbeing membership are able to compete in intramural for free with no admin costs, but they were required to have membership to participate. Understandably this has had a negative affect on certain students who now have to purchase membership, but the statistics show that more students are participating in intramural since the change and so SUSU and Sport and Wellbeing are in agreement that this is more beneficial to the majority of students.

Best wishes,

Steve Gore, VP Sports
