Install temporary replacement bike racks

Complete

All the bike racks outside physics and ECS have been cordoned off til January, with very little warning. Like the majority of campus most of these racks are usually full, so that's a lot of bikes to relocate somewhere else! With the new building and B58 currently under construction, there's really nowhere nearby that people can store their bikes. Could the union request that the university provide alternative cycle storage as close to the disrupted racks as possible, for this closure and in future? There's plenty of area which isn't being resurfaced on which temporary hoops could be put.

Thanks!!

Hi there,

Thank you for your You Make Change submission and apologies for the delayed reply. This submission initially went to the President to sort but due to recent events has been re-allocated to me.

I have spoken with the University Estates and Facilities team and he informed me that the reason the bike racks had to be cornered off at such short notice was because an issue with the building was found very unexpectedly and urgently needed resurfacing due to health and saftey. I have asked for there to be temporary bike racks put up and he has assured me that he will look to get them sorted as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Emily Harrison, VP Student COmmunities 2018-19.

There has been no action on this, is any forthcoming? Bikes are currently being chained to and damaging trees.

I'm a postgraduate student in the ORC, my desk is in Mountbatten. I didn't receive any emails about the closures.

I don't disagree with your proposal at all.

However, there is a lot of cycle storage between Building 1/16 and Building 32, which should be able to hold the required intake. As a postgraduate I was warned in at least two emails that the cycle rack will be closed at least three weeks ago, even detailing the duration of the closures.
