Paige Jansen invites some friends over to dinner to make the publication of a book, Beyond Belief, written by her spouse, Lars. These include witty scientist Hal, his newsreader wife Sian and hippy Wynne whose connection with Lars causes tension. A succession of unusual courses layered with lies and manipulation, is interrupted by the arrival of an unexpected guest, a passing lorry driver named Mike, looking for a telephone. He is greeted initially with hostility and suspicion, but is eventually granted a seat at the table. The palpably poisonous atmosphere and Paige’s unorthodox party games lead to some surprising revelations and, eventually, to death.
