Kathak Bharatanatyam Dance Society

Kandyan and Bharatanatyam are two of the most well known, traditional Sri Lankan and Indian classical dances. At SKBD we hope to provide a fun and engaging learning environment, providing a platform to learn and perform, whether you are an absolute beginner or seasoned pro!.

About Kathak Bharatanatyam Dance Society

Kandyan is a type of traditional dance that originated from Kandy in Sri Lanka. It is well known for its vibrant costumes and the live drums that are played when performing.

Bharatanatyam originates from South India and it reflects the culture of India at its best. Hallmarks of this dance are the eloquents of expression and the precision of footwork to intricate mathematical rhythms

At SKBD, we have a variety of exciting performances throughout the year, where we perform pure traditional pieces and our popular fusion choreos!

We are the hosts of the first ever inter-university classical dance competition in the UK - THAALA!
